RVR 3-1 Newlands Celtic (Div.1)
A bitterly cold day in the Ridgewood coliseum, the battle on view was the second meeting of Rivervalley rangers and Newlands celtic... The latter having been victorious earlier in the season by a scoreline of 3-1. The boys in maroon started well and had the better of the early exchanges, but it was the visitors who took the lead with a dubious offside decision and a calm finish by the ever lively Newlands centre forward. Rivervalley responded well though, creating a few decent sightings of their own. With 36 minutes on the watch, David Sullivan delivered an inviting cross and Paul Gibney was on hand to prod home from 6 yards. The half time whistle went soon after and the teams went in level at 1-1. The second half was a frantic affair, with tempers flailing and emotions running high but the hosts went 2-1 ahead on the 82nd minute with a corner from the excellent David Sullivan, whipped to the back post and jimmy rock was on hand to finish well. Rivervalley Rangers very own pop star, Jack Hargan came on and put on an exhibition, making it 3-1 with a crafty back heel after some tremendous approach play from substitute Conor Dowd. A special mention for David Sullivan who came close to adding to his two assists, but was denied by a very good save from a long range effort in injury time. If Bayern Munich don't come in with a January bid for him, there's no justice in the world. Well done to all involved...
